5 Tips for Decreasing Gas and Bloating (While Going Vegan)

Something that I hear from people who have recently gone vegan is that they are struggling with gas, bloating and are concerned about how long it will last. I have also known people who have given up on their vegan journey for this very reason.

Here are 5 Tips for Decreasing Gas and Bloating (While Going Vegan):

  1. Be sure to thoroughly chew your food! I know that this sounds ridiculous but how often are we mindlessly eating or eating in a hurry? When you chew your food, you support your digestion by activating important digestive enzymes. Challenge yourself to chew each bite 20-30x. Be sure to even chew your smoothies and juices.

  2. Avoid drinking out of straws. I totally get it! I too love drinking my lemon water and smoothies out of straws. But drinking out of straws creates air bubbles in our guts and these air bubbles have to get out one end or the other…producing gas (and possibly bloating).

  3. Gradually increase fiber! Fiber is amazing and so beneficial to our health. However, it can be overwhelming to your system, especially if you are coming from a diet high in animal products (that contain 0g of fiber). Start slowly and increase it as your system becomes acclimated.

  4. Soak your beans and grains.

  5. Cook your veggies. You guys know that I am a huge fan or raw veggies but they can be a bit harder for your body to digest in the beginning. Start with cooked or steamed veggies.

I hope that some of those tips are useful. There can be many other reasons for gas and bloating (including toxins, parasites or mineral deficiencies). If you want to get a better look into your own health, let’s chat. Schedule a consultation to see how I can best support you.
