When you go to the grocery store and buy meat, dairy and eggs, it is easy to forget that what you are about to eat was actually SOMEONE. They do a great job of hiding the truth by putting it in a pretty package. However, animal products were made from sentient beings, mostly babies, who experienced fear, trauma and wanted to live 🌿 I am so glad that in today’s world, it is incredibly easy to eat plants instead of animals. There are substitutes for all of your favorites 🌿 And FYI, although you may not be eating the baby chick when you eat eggs, baby chicks are still killed in the egg industry. When a baby boy chick is born, he is ground up, suffocated or thrown away in a dumpster (he is seen as useless by the industry since he doesn’t produce eggs) 🌿 Please consider these faces on your next trip to the grocery store and maybe give one of these alternatives a go instead!
About 5 years ago I was the lead personal trainer at a local gym. I’m ashamed to admit that I was not only eating eggs and chicken myself, but was encouraging my clients to do so as well. “Eat the lean meat” was what we had been taught via marketing and through fitness role models, having had 0 nutrition during my certification process ✨ Now that I know better, I find myself apologizing to the animals I ate and to my past clients ✨ Here’s the thing. From a health perspective, even the “lean meats” are full of cholesterol and saturated fat. In addition, one gram of any meat (or FAT) is 9 calories while one gram of a carbohydrate is only 4 calories. In addition, protein and iron from animals are extremely inflammatory and can lead to cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes ✨ And then there’s the ethical side. Chickens live in horrendous conditions: on top of each other, in their own feces, having their beaks cut off and baby chicks being ground up alive. And it doesn’t matter if the eggs or chickens are “free range” or “organic”. They are treated the same ✨ I am so sorry that I didn’t know better....
Are you looking for some warm, comfort food for the weekend?! This is my favorite “cheese” sauce: dairy and gluten free. It’s amazing for Mac and cheese or on baked potatoes 🌿 Comment below by tagging a friend if you want me to DM you the recipe 🌿 Have a great weekend!
Happy Valentine’s Day to my two loves 💕💕💕 #valentinesday2018
Do you ever feel like we overcomplicate food? “Eat food, mostly plants” is the motto I live by. Sometimes I start the day with a green smoothie or smoothie bowl. But over the colder months, oatmeal is what I crave and what I eat every morning. It is filling, full of fiber and is comforting. Here is my favorite, easy, oatmeal recipe 🌿 1/2 cup of Gluten Free Oats, 1 Banana (chopped), 2 Medjool Dates (chopped), Cinnamon, 1-2 tablespoons Hemp Seeds, Almond Milk (just a dash if you want your oats to be creamy), Extra Fruit of your choice (optional) 🌿 Bring one cup of water to a boil on the stovetop. Add the oats, hemp seeds and cinnamon. Chop the date and add it to the oats (it’ll melt a bit, yum!). Add the banana, splash of almond milk and extra fruit of your choice. Stir occasionally. Cook until most of the water has evaporated. Enjoy with a cup of tea 🌿 WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BREAKFAST FOR THE COLD MORNINGS?
The more and more I talk to people, I find that they are becoming more aware of the horrors of the meat industry but are still completely unaware of the suffering in the dairy industry 🐄 Let me summarize quickly: a cow will only produce milk if she is pregnant. Therefore, she is forcibly impregnated time and time again. She is pregnant for 9 months, just like a human 🐄 As soon as her baby is born, they don’t want the baby to drink “our”milk so the baby is ripped away from the mom. If the baby is a boy, he will be killed, discarded or raised for veal. A female may become a dairy cow and will suffer the same fate as her mom 🐄 Dairy cows are considered “spent” around 4-5 years and will be killed for hamburgers 🐄 Please you guys! We must do better than this! We have to stop supporting an industry that does this to these innocent beings. There are Plant Based cheeses, milks, yogurts, creamers, ice creams! Let me help you make the transition. Just DM me anytime! And please keep spreading the TRUTH! 🐄 📷: @weanimals
